The European Computer Driving License - ECDL has become an incredibly successful programme in Austria since it was launched some five years ago. The dynamic increase in the number of ECDL certifications illustrates this success. In 1999 a total of 3,800 individual examinations were taken by teachers and pupils in Austrian schools, this number had rose to 34,703 by 2001, and by 2002 to about 51,400. By the end of 2003 an incredible 211,000 thousand individual exams were counted making the ECDL the most important ICT certification recognised in Austria.
